When teams ask for help

A funding application, partner review or website update may call for accessibility findings and information about data handling. Teams also need donation and sign-up forms that work for their audience.

Relevant website requirements

These topics may be relevant to your website. Applicability depends on your organization, the services it offers and the information it handles.

ADA web accessibility

How ADA accessibility requirements relate to websites and the tasks people need to complete.

WCAG 2.2 AA

The technical accessibility criteria used to guide testing and review.

Data requests

How to recognize, record and handle requests about personal information.

Cookie consent

How storage, tracking, consent and opt-out rules vary by region and purpose.

Sector-specific considerations

These areas also need to be considered when planning the website and its forms.

Nonprofit exemptions

Privacy-law coverage varies by statute and organization. Check the relevant exemptions, because nonprofit status alone does not resolve every website requirement.

ADA Title III and nonprofits

Title III of the ADA covers many organizations that serve the public, including many nonprofits. The Department of Justice identifies some exemptions, such as religious organizations and qualifying private clubs, so nonprofit status alone does not settle the question.

Funding and accessibility

Funding agreements and procurement requirements may include accessibility conditions. Identify the specific terms and applicable authority before choosing the assessment standard and required records. Section 504 applies to recipients of federal financial assistance, Section 508 governs what federal agencies procure, and a grant agreement can add terms of its own.

Steadwatch's role

  • Donation and sign-up journeys are included in the agreed accessibility review scope. Records show the tests performed, findings and changes.
  • We can supply the website records relevant to a funder or partner review.

The managed platform also includes accessibility checks, consent controls, data-request tracking and monthly reporting.

Your responsibilities

  • Establishing whether a state exemption applies to you, which turns on the state and on what you do.
  • Terms attached to your funding, which may impose obligations beyond anything general law requires.
  • Your donor database and email platform, which are separate systems holding more than the website does.

This page provides general information. Your obligations depend on your business and jurisdiction. Consult a qualified adviser about your circumstances.
